The Diva's Birth Story: Part III

Finally in a delivery room and it was 11:45pm. The nurses weren't waiting around either. They had my IV and blood work done in minutes and put a rush order on my blood work to get an epidural. They even called the anthologist before my blood work was done to make sure she was there! (FINALLY someone listened to me about my fast delivery!) By 12:45 the epidural was in, not yet taking effect, and the nurses were finishing up the paper work and getting us settled in. We were told to try and rest...yeah, right....so we turned the lights off and I had just finally relaxed my body when at 1:10am my water broke. I called the nurse and she came in a few minutes later, checked to make sure my water had in fact broke...(duh, I was sitting in a puddle!) After getting everything cleaned up, she checked me and I was 10 cm...ready to go. My doctor and another nurse came in shortly after that and it was push time!

The Little Diva wasn't having any of it however. She never moved down into the birth canal, so I spent some time just pushing her down. She sure did take her sweet time. However, with the epidural I totally didn't feel a thing. This was a blessing, but also made it hard to push. In between pushing, there was a lot of laughing and joking going on with us, the doctor, and the nurses. There was no reason not to have fun while pushing out a baby, right? Finally, she was in position and 2 pushes later, she was out. However, she did have the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, not once, but twice. This could have kept her from moving down on her own. She also came out on her side, instead of head down. Thank God that the cord was not tight around her neck and cause her no trouble. She came out just perfect. Her cry was like magic and her Daddy and I couldn't take our eyes off how beautiful she was. Curt got to hold her first. Every time he talked to her, she got really quiet and tried to focus on him. She is already a Daddy's girl!
