The Diva's Birth Story: The FINALE! and Week1

So....after a longer delivery....we were finally taken to the ONLY postpartum room left in the entire hospital. Now, I call it a room, but can it really be called a room if it only has 3 walls? Literally! It only had three walls, it was more like a closet. There wasn't much to do except watch whatever we could find on TV....I got caught up on The Real House Wives of Orange County....and sleep. We couldn't move around the room, unless we went from our respective resting places to the bathroom. We had to stay 48 hours for our newborn screening, but once that was done, we were more than ready to head home! Baby C wore the exact same outfit that Big C wore home, with the addition of pink bows!

How has Big C reacted to the newest edition? Well....better than we ever imagined!! He wants to know where she is at all times, will give her a pacifier, kiss her, pat her back, and his already protective of her. He didn't want the other kids to look at her when I picked him up from the babysitter with Baby C for the first time. "NO! NO! Tay-ton's babeee!" So cute! He even shares watching Mickey Mouse with her!
Baby C is officially 1 week old! She has ventured outside only to pick up her brother from the babysitter's and to her 1 week doctor's appointment. The doctor thinks she looks great...she is already past her birth weight! When we left the hospital, she went from 7.10 lbs to 7.28lbs. Now, she is back up to 7.11lbs. She is still a little jaundice, but it is nothing that the doctor is concerned about.
I, for one, think she is just perfect...but then again, I'm a little partial....
...even if I do bore her!

The Diva's Birth Story: Part III

Finally in a delivery room and it was 11:45pm. The nurses weren't waiting around either. They had my IV and blood work done in minutes and put a rush order on my blood work to get an epidural. They even called the anthologist before my blood work was done to make sure she was there! (FINALLY someone listened to me about my fast delivery!) By 12:45 the epidural was in, not yet taking effect, and the nurses were finishing up the paper work and getting us settled in. We were told to try and rest...yeah, right....so we turned the lights off and I had just finally relaxed my body when at 1:10am my water broke. I called the nurse and she came in a few minutes later, checked to make sure my water had in fact broke...(duh, I was sitting in a puddle!) After getting everything cleaned up, she checked me and I was 10 cm...ready to go. My doctor and another nurse came in shortly after that and it was push time!

The Little Diva wasn't having any of it however. She never moved down into the birth canal, so I spent some time just pushing her down. She sure did take her sweet time. However, with the epidural I totally didn't feel a thing. This was a blessing, but also made it hard to push. In between pushing, there was a lot of laughing and joking going on with us, the doctor, and the nurses. There was no reason not to have fun while pushing out a baby, right? Finally, she was in position and 2 pushes later, she was out. However, she did have the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, not once, but twice. This could have kept her from moving down on her own. She also came out on her side, instead of head down. Thank God that the cord was not tight around her neck and cause her no trouble. She came out just perfect. Her cry was like magic and her Daddy and I couldn't take our eyes off how beautiful she was. Curt got to hold her first. Every time he talked to her, she got really quiet and tried to focus on him. She is already a Daddy's girl!

The Diva's Birth Story: Part II

So off to the hospital we went...wondering and hoping that they would "keep me" and our little girl would be coming soon. After getting checked in and settled into a "labor" room, I was monitored for about 40 minutes. During this time, my contractions were coming steadily every 5minutes and I was 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. The nurse came in to inform us that we had a choice. We could either go home (not a chance!) or stay and be observed for 2 hours. We opted to stay, knowing that if we went home, we would be back in two hours anyways...and we weren't going to take a chance on not making it back.

After two hours of waiting and struggling to find something to watch on TV, I started having contractions ever 2-3 minutes and had dilated to 4 cm. The contractions had not yet begun to get painful, just uncomfortable. Once again, we were informed that we could either go home...(uh, hello?! have you not been listening when I say my labor is FAST?) or we could stay for another couple of hours to be monitored. I have to admit, this was getting really annoying, really fast! By this time, it was after 9:00pm and with contractions every 2-3 minutes, there was no way I was going home! Another 2 hours went past, and finally at 11:30 we got the word that we were being admitted. We were taken to a delivery room and got settled. As we were getting settled, surprise! my doctor just happen to go on call and poked his head in. He was all smiles, knowing full well that when he stripped my membranes I would be delivering...he just wanted to be on call for me! (Which he admitted in not so many words that night). Finally, we were admitted...all that we needed to do next was have this baby!

Can you tell I'm relieved to FINALLY be in a delivery room?!

The Diva's Birth Story: Part I

I know many of you will be wondering how this labor/delivery all went considering that Big C made his appearance super fast (a total of 20 minutes). Baby C...or Little Diva as we have taken to calling her, decided to that she liked my uterus a little too much and just wasn't ready to come out yet. Here is her story:

Monday-Wednesday I had been having contractions. They weren't painful, just uncomfortable. Tuesday after my doctor stripped my membranes, I fully thought that I would be back at the hospital that night in labor. Well, that wasn't the case. Wednesday started with the same contractions, but not close enough together to "raise the alarm." Curt stayed home with me that day from school and we decided to "walk this baby out" and headed to the mall to join the senior citizens in art of "mall walking". We walked for about 2 hours which started the contractions to intensify. (On a side note..those mall walkers are fast! I seriously felt the wind as the zoomed past me. I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed at my slowness!) I got tired and we headed home. However, once laying down at home, the contractions slowed down...talk about frustrating!

After a nap and some much needed relaxation, we decided to try our chances again and headed back to the mall. This time, after 40 minutes, the contractions were intense and my body was getting tired. We decided to head home, grab our bags, and head to the hospital. We figured, what's the worst that could happen? They send us home? Well...needless to say, we did not get sent home that Wednesday night!

In Case You Didn't Know.....

Big C is officially a BIG BROTHER!!

Lacey Marie was born on Thursday, February 4th at 2:20am. She weighed in at 7lbs 10 oz and 20 inches long. She was in her true diva self didn't want to come out, so I had to do most of the work. I would do it over and over again just to be able to see her precious face! Here we are right after she was born....after being up all day and giving birth, the poof doesn't look so hot!
Curt and his baby girl....I had to pry her out of his arms! She is already a Daddy's girl!

Baby C and I have been recovering well. She has captured all of our hearts and we couldn't be more thrilled and happy to finally have her in our arms.

This "now-family-of-four" are trying to settle into our new routine and just enjoying our time together!

Another Baby C Update

More progress has been made! In one day, I have progressed to 3 cm...still 70%effaced, which is very close to what I was when I went into the hospital with Big C.
Our doctor went ahead and stripped my membranes....if you don't know what that means, you can find out here. If this is going to work, it will work within 48 hours. With my family history with this and my progress already, I am pretty hopefully that it will work and we be meeting our baby girl shortly!
